Cladding Fitting Tips

  • Cladding should be fixed to treated timber battens at least 38mm x 19mm. The recommended dimensions are 38mm x 25mm.
  • Battens should be fixed vertically at a maximum of 600mm centres.
  • Where installations are above two storeys, fixing centres should be reduced to 400mm.
  • A minimum 19mm clear ventilated air space should be provided behind the cladding. Strips ventilators can be provided and will protect against insect ingress.
  • A starter trim should be fixed at the base of the cladding. Fixings should not exceed 600mm centres.
  • Cladding should be fixed with 30mm x 2mm stainless steel annular ring shank nails using the fixing groove provided.
  • In exposed locations or where the substrate is not weatherproof, a breather membrane should be fitted. A minimum 19mm air gap must be maintained.
  • A 4mm expansion gap must be provided at all board ends.
  • Where joint covers are used, they should be staggered, not installed vertically above each other.
